Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=PFE\">Pfizer<\/a>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=BNTX\">BioNTech<\/a>\u2019s and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/?symbol=MRNA\">Moderna<\/a>\u2019s vaccines, the only two in the U.S. that have received emergency authorization so far, have proven to be roughly 95% effective at preventing symptomatic infection in people given two doses spread out weeks apart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Johnson &amp; Johnson\u2019s vaccine, a one-dose jab that has yet to be granted the same authorization from the federal government, reported on Friday that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/29\/covid-vaccine-jjs-one-shot-drug-is-72percent-in-the-us-but-less-effective-elsewhere.html\">its vaccine was 66% effective<\/a>\u00a0overall in protecting against\u00a0Covid-19 in clinical trials. While lower than the others, it\u2019s still above the threshold the federal government set \u2014 roughly 50% \u2014 to be granted emergency authorization.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, the company\u2019s drug was 85% effective\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/29\/covid-vaccine-jjs-one-shot-drug-is-72percent-in-the-us-but-less-effective-elsewhere.html\">in preventing people from becoming severely ill<\/a>\u00a0with Covid-19 four weeks after their shot. The vaccine from J&amp;J could become available in March if it clears the U.S. Food and Drug Administration\u2019s standards for emergency use, Fauci said.<\/p>\n<p>Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, also urged people to accept whichever vaccine available to them once it\u2019s their turn.<\/p>\n<div class=\"MidResponsive-midResponsiveContainer\">\n<div id=\"MidResponsive-1\" class=\"\" data-module=\"mps-slot\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered\"><iframe id=\"twitter-widget-0\" class=\"\" title=\"Twitter Tweet\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/index.html?creatorScreenName=higginsdunn&amp;dnt=false&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1357390166810320899&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnbc.com%2F2021%2F02%2F04%2Fdr-fauci-on-why-its-important-to-wear-a-mask-after-getting-your-covid-vaccine-.html&amp;siteScreenName=CNBC&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&amp;width=550px\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-tweet-id=\"1357390166810320899\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Researchers are currently collecting follow-up data from people who participated in clinical trials to determine whether the amount of virus they carry in their nose is reduced after vaccination, or if there\u2019s \u201csignificantly fewer\u201d cases where people don\u2019t exhibit any symptoms over the course of their infection.<\/p>\n<p>That would indicate \u201ca decreased ability to transmit the virus following vaccination,\u201d Fauci said.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Read more:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/01\/29\/covid-vaccine-what-you-need-to-know-about-shots-nearing-us-debut.html\"><em><strong>As new Covid vaccines near U.S. debut, here\u2019s what you need to know about the shots<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Masks, combined with other measures like frequent hand washing and social distancing, have been a critical tool to suppress the spread of Covid-19, medical experts have maintained.<\/p>\n<p>The virus spreads from person-to-person through respiratory droplets that travel through the air when someone talks, coughs, sneezes, sings, or shouts, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>. Face coverings serve as a barrier that can prevent those droplets from spraying to others.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s now evidence that the masks could also give the wearer some protection from the virus, the CDC says, though how well it works likely depends on the type of mask.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also important to remember that most Americans haven\u2019t been vaccinated yet, said Dr. Joshua Barocas, a professor at the Boston University School of Medicine. According\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#vaccination-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to recent data<\/a>\u00a0from the CDC, just nearly 34 million doses of vaccine have been administered so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t know who\u2019s unvaccinated. We don\u2019t wear it like a badge on our coat.
