UK Won’t Introduce “Vaccine Passports”, Minister Says<\/h1>\n

The UK government will not introduce \u201cvaccine passports,\u201d but people will be able to ask their doctors for proof of\u00a0vaccination<\/a>\u00a0if needed for international travel,<\/strong>\u00a0Britain\u2019s vaccine deployment minister Nadhim Zahawi said on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The government has \u201cno plan of introducing a vaccine passport\u201d because \u201cvaccines are not mandated in this country,\u201d Zahawi told the BBC\u2019s Andrew Marr Show.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not how we do things in the UK. We do them by consent. We yet don\u2019t know what the impact of vaccines on transmission is and it would be discriminatory,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>he said.<\/p>\n

But he said people can obtain proof of vaccination from their doctors if they are travelling to countries that require such evidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, you have the evidence that you\u2019ve been vaccinated, held by your GP. And if other countries require you to show proof of that evidence, then that is obviously up to those countries.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Last November, days after Zahawi was appointed by Prime Minister\u00a0Boris Johnson<\/a>\u00a0as minister in charge of the\u00a0CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>\u00a0vaccine roll-out, he suggested that people may need to provide\u00a0proof of vaccination<\/a>\u00a0before they are allowed to enter restaurants or entertainment venues.<\/p>\n

The idea triggered a backlash among Conservative lawmakers and a\u00a0denial<\/a>\u00a0from Cabinet Minister Michael Gove, who said he didn\u2019t know anyone in government who was planning to introduce any vaccine passports.<\/p>\n

But the discussion on vaccine passports was revived last week when\u00a0James Cleverly<\/a>, the Foreign Office minister, said such documents could be provided to British citizens travelling overseas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is often the case that the entry requirements for countries are for vaccines or inoculations, and that is not an uncommon practice,\u201d he told the BBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will work with international partners to help facilitate their border arrangements and their immigration arrangements. We\u2019ll have to see what countries, what the international community, put in place once vaccines around the world are as effectively distributed.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But Health Secretary\u00a0Matt Hancock<\/a>\u00a0denied the government was planning to issue vaccine passports.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, we have no plans for vaccine passports and anyway going on holiday is illegal in this lockdown. Of course we are constantly working with other countries and we keep these sorts of things under review,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>he told\u00a0ITV<\/a> on Friday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

By Saturday, nearly 11.5 million people across the UK had received the first vaccine dose for COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP virus, according to data released by Public Health England.<\/p>\n
