According to new data released today, as of Feb. 12, 15,923 adverse reactions to COVID vaccines, including 929 deaths,\u00a0have been reported<\/a>\u00a0to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC)\u00a0Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System<\/a>\u00a0(VAERS) since Dec. 14, 2020.<\/p>\n VAERS is the primary mechanism in the U.S. for reporting adverse vaccine reactions. Reports submitted to VAERS require further investigation before a determination can be made as to whether the reported adverse event was directly or indirectly caused by the vaccine.<\/p>\n The latest VAERS data show that 799 of the deaths were reported in the U.S., and that about one-third of those deaths occurred within 48 hours of the individual receiving the vaccination.<\/p>\n As is consistent with\u00a0previous VAERS data reports<\/a>, 192 of the reported deaths \u2014 or 21% \u2014 were cardiac-related. As\u00a0The Defender reported<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month, Dr. J. Patrick Whelan, a pediatric rheumatologist, warned the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December that\u00a0mRNA vaccines<\/a>\u00a0like those developed by\u00a0Pfizer<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Moderna<\/a>\u00a0could cause heart attacks and other injuries in ways not assessed in safety trials.<\/p>\n Of the 929 deaths reported since Dec. 14, 2020, the average age of the deceased was 77.8 and the youngest was 23. Fifty-two percent of the reported deaths were among men, 45% were women and 3% are unknown. Fifty-eight percent of the deaths were reported in people who received the Pfizer vaccine, and 41% were related to the Moderna vaccine.<\/p>\n States with the\u00a0highest reported number<\/a>\u00a0of deaths were: California (71); Florida (50); Ohio (38); New York (31); Kentucky (41); Michigan (31); and Texas (31).<\/p>\n CBS Detroit reported<\/a>\u00a0this week that a 68-year old news anchor died one day after being vaccinated for COVID of a\u00a0suspected stroke<\/a>.<\/p>\n Reports of deaths among elderly people after being vaccinated for COVID continue to surface, including\u00a0the article<\/a>\u00a0published this week by The Defender about 46 nursing home residents in Spain who died within one month of receiving the Pfizer vaccine.<\/p>\n According to the latest data,\u00a03,126 \u201cserious\u201d adverse reactions<\/a>\u00a0have been reported. Adverse reaction reports from the latest CDC data also include:<\/p>\n So far, only Pfizer and Moderna vaccines \u2014 approved for\u00a0emergency use<\/a>, but not fully licensed \u2014 are being used in the U.S.<\/p>\n AstraZeneca\u2019s COVID vaccine<\/a>, which does not use mRNA technology, was approved for emergency use this week by the World Health Organization, paving the way for some countries to start using it. However, as\u00a0The Defender reported<\/a>\u00a0this week, some nations have said they won\u2019t use it, citing safety and efficacy concerns.<\/p>\n FiercePharma reported today<\/a>\u00a0that the FDA may reject the AstraZeneca vaccine over concerns relating to efficacy, especially against new COVID variants, and manufacturing issues.<\/p>\n News reports indicate that a growing number of people, including\u00a0nearly 30% of healthcare workers<\/a>, now say they don\u2019t want the COVID vaccine, citing safety concerns.<\/p>\n The Washington Post reported<\/a>\u00a0this week that nearly a third of military personnel are opting out of the vaccines, and\u00a0ESPN reported<\/a>\u00a0that top NBA players are reluctant to promote the vaccine.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the FDA has not yet implemented systems to monitor the safety of the\u00a0experimental<\/a>\u00a0COVID vaccines. FDA officials\u00a0told The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0they don\u2019t expect the systems to be up and running before the Biden administration reaches its goal of vaccinating 100 million Americans \u2014 nearly one third of the U.S. population.<\/p>\n As of Feb. 19, about\u00a056.3 million people<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S. had received one or both doses of a COVID vaccine.<\/p>\n While the VAERS database numbers may seem sobering, according to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services\u00a0study<\/a>, the actual number of\u00a0adverse events<\/a>\u00a0is likely significantly higher. VAERS is a\u00a0passive surveillance system<\/a>\u00a0that relies on the willingness of individuals to submit reports voluntarily.<\/p>\n According to the VAERS website, healthcare providers are required by law to report to VAERS:<\/p>\n The CDC says<\/a>\u00a0healthcare providers are strongly encouraged to report:<\/p>\n However, \u201cwithin the specified time\u201d means that reactions occurring outside that timeframe may not be reported, in addition to reactions suffered hours or days later by people who don\u2019t report those reactions to their healthcare provider.<\/p>\n Vaccine manufacturers are required to report to VAERS \u201call adverse events that come to their attention.\u201d<\/p>\n Historically, however, fewer than\u00a0fewer than 1%<\/a>\u00a0of adverse events have ever been reported to VAERS, a system that Children\u2019s Health Defense has previously referred to as an \u201cabject\u00a0failure<\/a>,\u201d including in a December 2020\u00a0letter<\/a>\u00a0to Dr. David\u00a0 Kessler, former FDA director and now co-chair of the COVID-19 Advisory Board and President Biden\u2019s\u00a0version<\/a>\u00a0of Operation Warp Speed.<\/p>\n A critic familiar with VAERS\u2019 shortcomings bluntly condemned VAERS in\u00a0The BMJ<\/a>\u00a0as \u201cnothing more than window dressing, and a part of U.S. authorities\u2019 systematic effort to reassure\/deceive us about vaccine safety.\u201d<\/p>\n CHD is calling for complete transparency. The children\u2019s health organization is asking Kessler and the federal government to release all of the data from the clinical trials and suspend COVID-19 vaccine use in any group not adequately represented in the clinical trials, including the elderly, frail and anyone with comorbidities.<\/p>\n CHD is also asking for full transparency in post-marketing data that reports all health outcomes, including new diagnoses of autoimmune disorders, adverse events and deaths from COVID vaccines.<\/p>\n Children\u2019s Health Defense asks anyone who has experienced an adverse reaction, to any vaccine, to file a report following\u00a0these three steps<\/a>.<\/p>\n![\"Feb.](\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/vaers-covid-vaccine-injury-numbers-300x183.jpg\")
