New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says NYPD officers should pay people home visits if they engage in \u201churtful\u201d behavior to others even if the action isn\u2019t criminal.<\/strong><\/p>\n What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n \u201cEven if something is not a criminal case, a perpetrator being confronted by the city, whether it\u2019s NYPD or another agency, and being told that what they\u2019ve done was very hurtful to another person \u2014 and could, if ever repeated, lead to criminal charges \u2014 that\u2019s another important piece of the puzzle,\u201d de Blasio told reporters.<\/p>\n The Mayor failed to define precisely what he meant by \u201churtful,\u201d but since he framed it in the context of non-criminal behavior, he can only be referring to mean words.<\/p>\n De Blasio urged officers to \u201cconfront\u201d people to tell them their behavior is \u201cnot appropriate,\u201d urging alleged victims to make more reports to authorities.<\/p>\n He then even suggested that cops, instead of responding to actual crimes, should visit New Yorker\u2019s homes to police their speech.<\/p>\n \u201cI assure you, if an NYPD officer calls you or shows up at your door to ask you about something you did, it makes people think twice,\u201d he said. \u201cWe need that.\u201d<\/p>\n De Blasio made the comments in light of yet another contrived moral panic, this time over an alleged rise in \u201chate crime\u201d towards Asians.<\/p>\n The narrative was bolstered after a gunman slaughtered eight people \u2014 including six Asian women \u2014 at massage parlors across Atlanta, Georgia.<\/p>\n The media has either glossed over or outright ignored the fact that two white victims also lost their lives and that the attack was motivated by the killer\u2019s sex obsession and had nothing whatsoever to do with race.<\/p>\n
