{"id":60886,"date":"2021-04-17T11:34:34","date_gmt":"2021-04-17T15:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=60886"},"modified":"2021-04-17T11:34:34","modified_gmt":"2021-04-17T15:34:34","slug":"russia-ukraine-conflict-intensifies-with-spying-charges-against-kiev-diplomat-whos-really-a-spook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=60886","title":{"rendered":"Russia Ukraine Conflict Intensifies with Spying Charges Against Kiev Diplomat Who&#8217;s Really a Spook"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Russia Briefly Detains Ukrainian Diplomat On Spy Charges, Orders Expulsion<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p>Yet another major crisis has erupted between Russia and Ukraine, this time involving the\u00a0<strong>brief detention of a Ukrainian diplomat\u00a0over accusations of spying<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ukraine&#8217;s foreign ministry\u00a0said\u00a0Saturday that Russia briefly detained one of its diplomats in St Petersburg, marking the latest instance of tension between\u00a0the two countries,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/international\/russia\/548808-ukrainian-diplomat-released-after-brief-detention-in-russia\"><em>The Hill<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reports Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The diplomat, identified as\u00a0Oleksandr Sosoniuk was taken into custody by Russia&#8217;s FSB security service shortly after meeting with a Russian citizen.\u00a0<strong>Sosoniuk is being accused of attempting to gain classified information from Russian databases from a local &#8216;asset&#8217;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/fsbfile.png?itok=swlbwpNR\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"e132482c-9f17-44a4-8298-6485767a839f\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>Russia&#8217;s FSB, file image<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;This activity is incompatible with the status of a diplomatic employee and is<strong>\u00a0hostile to the Russian Federation<\/strong>. The foreign diplomat will be dealt with in accordance with international law,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/russian-security-service-briefly-detains-ukrainian-diplomat-2021-04-17\/\">the FSB said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The diplomat has been given till April 22 to depart the country,\u00a0<em>Reuters<\/em>\u00a0reports.
