{"id":60930,"date":"2021-04-17T15:18:52","date_gmt":"2021-04-17T19:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=60930"},"modified":"2021-04-17T16:02:57","modified_gmt":"2021-04-17T20:02:57","slug":"60930","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=60930","title":{"rendered":"Biden Deceitfully Lies About Ending the Afghan War"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Biden Isn&#8217;t Ending The Afghan War, He&#8217;s Privatizing It<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->by Dave DeCamp<br \/>\nAntiWar.com<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Unclear&#8217; If Over 18,000 Contractors Will Ever Leave Afghanistan: Pentagon<\/h2>\n<p>While President Biden said he will withdraw troops from Afghanistan,<strong>\u00a0it\u2019s not clear if his plan extends to the thousands of contractors working for the Pentagon that are still in the country<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about this issue on Friday,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Newsroom\/Transcripts\/Transcript\/Article\/2576490\/pentagon-press-secretary-john-f-kirby-holds-a-press-briefing\/\">Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said<\/a>\u00a0he wasn\u2019t sure. &#8220;<strong>So on the contractors, we don\u2019t know exactly<\/strong>. \u00a0There are some preliminary plans. \u00a0And clearly, the goal is to get all our personnel out and I suspect that contractors will be part of that. But whether there\u2019ll still be a need for some contractor support, I just don\u2019t know,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/milcontractrs.jpg?itok=nc1FB4ia\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"315\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"b074e5b4-e479-4ba1-a747-48a6536974c8\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>Via Pinterest<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The US plans to continue supporting the Afghan military and Air Force. Since the bulk of the maintenance for these armed forces is performed by US contractors,\u00a0<strong>there\u2019s a good chance the Pentagon will justify a continued presence of private contractor<\/strong>s.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2021\/01\/19\/over-18000-pentagon-contractors-remain-in-afghanistan-despite-troop-reduction\/\">numbers released in January<\/a>, there are\u00a0<strong>over 18,000 contractors working in Afghanistan<\/strong>. About 4,700 of the current contractors are Afghans that were hired locally. The remaining come from outside of the country, including about a third who are US citizens.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/UjuJK#selection-2287.138-2287.143\"><em>Stars and Stripes<\/em><\/a>, 1,575 of the contractors are armed mercenaries, mostly Americans and other foreigners. While this number is only a small fighting force, it could be combined with intelligence operatives and proxies like the Afghan military to give the US the ability to strike inside Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2021\/04\/15\/secdef-austin-hints-at-continued-us-military-involvement-in-afghanistan\/\">said on Wednesday<\/a>\u00a0that the US wants to maintain &#8220;counterterrorist assets&#8221; in the region.
