It was passed into law in March by the Republican super majority legislature without Democrat Governor Andy Beshear\u2019s signature. SB 8 includes a provision stating, \u201cno person shall be required to be immunized with a vaccine that has not been licensed and undergone at least two years of post-licensure safety study.\u201d If the experimental COVID vaccines do get FDA approval, they could become mandated.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"\" class=\"su-note\">\n<div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p>G. Edward Griffin<br \/>\nNeed to Know<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"https:\/\/winchestersun.com\/2021\/02\/23\/bill-would-allow-people-to-opt-out-of-pandemic-vaccine\/\" href=\"https:\/\/winchestersun.com\/2021\/02\/23\/bill-would-allow-people-to-opt-out-of-pandemic-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Other<\/a> bills proposed in Kentucky \u201cwould bar the government from requiring any person to get a vaccine, prohibit employers from requiring employees to get a vaccine, ban discrimination against an employee who declines to get a vaccination, and prohibit public and private postsecondary schools and colleges from requiring students to be vaccinated except for students in health care programs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Immunization\u00a0opt-outs<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\"><span class=\"colour\"><span class=\"font\"><span class=\"size\">Senate Bill 8 received final passage Tuesday, expanding the ability of Kentuckians and parents to opt out of required immunizations in the event of a pandemic based on conscientiously held beliefs.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\"><span class=\"colour\"><span class=\"font\"><span class=\"size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courier-journal.com\/story\/news\/politics\/ky-general-assembly\/2021\/02\/03\/scaled-back-bill-allowing-vaccine-opt-outs-passes-senate-committee\/4362147001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\"|inline|intext|n\/a\">The original\u00a0version of the bill<\/a>\u00a0would have significantly relaxed requirements for childhood immunizations\u00a0by allowing parents to opt out due to\u00a0conscientious beliefs, with bill sponsor Sen. Mike Wilson, R-Bowling Green, fearing the government would mandate people take the COVID-19 vaccine.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\"><span class=\"colour\"><span class=\"font\"><span class=\"size\">The House passed an amended SB 8 last week by a 77-20 vote, adding a provision that no person can\u00a0be required to be immunized with a vaccine that has not been licensed and undergone at least two years of a post-licensure safety study.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\"><span class=\"colour\"><span class=\"font\"><span class=\"size\">Rep. The state legislature passed the bill with veto-proof majority votes.
