{"id":62019,"date":"2021-04-24T17:59:35","date_gmt":"2021-04-24T21:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=62019"},"modified":"2021-04-24T18:00:15","modified_gmt":"2021-04-24T22:00:15","slug":"why-is-the-cdc-even-talking-about-wearing-mask-outside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=62019","title":{"rendered":"Why is the CDC even talking about wearing mask outside?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>CDC &#8220;Looking At&#8221; Whether Masks Are Still Needed Outdoors<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->by Mimi Nguyen Ly via<br \/>\nThe Epoch Times<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is \u201clooking at\u201d whether people should continue to wear\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-masks\">masks<\/a>\u00a0outdoors amid the pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is a question that we\u2019re looking at,\u201d\u00a0CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/video\/cdc-director-we-re-looking-at-whether-it-s-still-necessary-to-wear-a-mask-outdoors-110646853682\">\u201cToday\u201d show<\/a>\u00a0when asked about the matter. \u201cOne of the things I think that\u2019s really important to understand is, while there\u2019s wonderful news and we\u2019re getting more and more people vaccinated every single day, we still had 57,000 cases of COVID yesterday, we still had 733 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so now, we are really trying to scale up vaccination. We have this complex message that we still have hot spots in this country. (Erin Clark\/Pool\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/h5>\n<p>Show host Samantha Guthrie then asked, \u201cI understand this is really complicated,\u00a0<strong>but if people are getting vaccinated but they still have to wear masks\u2014they\u2019re outside in the fresh air and the warm weather but the CDC is still saying, \u2018Well you should probably wear your masks\u2019\u2014What\u2019s the incentive?<\/strong>\u00a0Isn\u2019t part of this part of a reward thing where, \u2018Do the right thing and you\u2019ll be rewarded?\u2019 Do you balance that at all when you\u2019re making these decisions about the guidance that you give?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walensky responded,\u00a0\u201cWe absolutely do and as we look at the guidance to revive\u2014the guidance of what you can do when you\u2019re vaccinated, that will be easier and easier to do as more and more people get vaccinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CDC\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html\">guidance for wearing masks<\/a>, updated on April 19, advises,<em><strong>\u00a0\u201cMasks may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with people who live in your household.<\/strong><\/em>\u201d The guidance notes that some areas in the United States may have mask mandates while out in public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/20210120_Mask_Chung-I-Ho-9421-700x420.jpg?itok=bJ22Oo1h\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/20210120_Mask_Chung-I-Ho-9421-700x420.jpg?itok=bJ22Oo1h\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/20210120_Mask_Chung-I-Ho-9421-700x420.jpg?itok=bJ22Oo1h\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"653f6506-752c-4126-bd62-600c09803bcf\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The agency said it generally\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/about-face-coverings.html\">recommends<\/a>\u00a0that people should wear masks\u00a0\u201cin public settings, at events\u00a0and gatherings, and anywhere they will be around other people,\u201d as well as on any public transportation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CDC in another\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/fully-vaccinated.html#:~:text=We're%20still%20learning%20how,places%20until%20we%20know%20more.\">guidance<\/a>\u00a0updated April 2 noted that people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 should \u201ckeep taking precautions\u201d in public spaces, such as wearing a mask, staying six feet away from others, and avoiding crowds.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19, the disease caused by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/giving-the-right-name-to-the-virus-causing-a-worldwide-pandemic-2_3277200.html\">CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>, is known to spread mainly via respiratory droplets that a person exhales. When the respiratory droplets are inhaled by another person, or is somehow deposited into the other person\u2019s mucous membranes that line the inside of the nose and mouth, infection may occur. The droplets can range in size, and small droplets \u201ccan also form particles when they dry very quickly in the airstream,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/how-covid-spreads.html\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the CDC.<\/p>\n<p>If the small droplets and particles manage to\u00a0remain in the air for minutes to hours, COVID-19 can be spread via airborne transmission, and affect another person who is further than six feet away from the infected person. Only\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/niosh\/npptl\/pdfs\/UnderstandDifferenceInfographic-508.pdf\">N95 masks<\/a>\u00a0protect against smaller particles.<\/p>\n<p>The disease is less commonly spread through touching contaminated surfaces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/jid\/article\/223\/4\/550\/6009483\">A review<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0The Journal of Infectious Diseases published in November 2020 found that\u00a0<strong>the likelihood of spreading the virus indoors was 18.7 times higher than outdoors, and that less than 10 percent of reported global CCP virus infections occurred outdoors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Currently,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/health\/healthy-living\/info-2020\/states-mask-mandates-coronavirus.html\">26 U.S. states<\/a>, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, require people to wear masks in public.
