Nowadays, there is no meaningful separation between the news media and the CIA at all.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Glenn Greenwald just highlighted an interesting point about the reporting by\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0on the so-called\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2020\/06\/29\/this-russia-afghanistan-story-is-western-disinformation\/\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2020\/06\/29\/this-russia-afghanistan-story-is-western-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Bountygate&#8221; story<\/a>\u00a0the outlet broke in June of last year about the Russian government trying to pay Taliban-linked fighters to attack US soldiers in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the NYT reporters who originally broke the Russia bounty story (originally attributed to unnamed &#8216;intelligence officials&#8217;) say today that it was a CIA claim,&#8221; Greenwald\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ggreenwald\/status\/1382793565714153472?s=20\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ggreenwald\/status\/1382793565714153472?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>.\u00a0<strong>&#8220;So media outlets &#8211; again &#8211; repeated CIA stories with no questioning: congrats to all.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-image-large to-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sott.net\/image\/s30\/606405\/full\/cia_media01.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"ibox&amp;ignore_target=true noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Click to enlarge\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sott.net\/image\/s30\/606405\/large\/cia_media01.jpg\" alt=\"colby cia media protest\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Indeed, NYT&#8217;s original\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/93nVy\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/93nVy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">story<\/a>\u00a0made no mention of CIA involvement in the narrative, citing only &#8220;officials,&#8221; yet\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/FtofX\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/FtofX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this latest article<\/a>\u00a0speaks as though it had been informing its readers of the story&#8217;s roots in the\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/12\/9\/7361295\/biggest-lies-the-cia-told-about-the-torture-program\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/12\/9\/7361295\/biggest-lies-the-cia-told-about-the-torture-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lying, torturing<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alicia_dl_1\/status\/1382331952410267648?s=20\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alicia_dl_1\/status\/1382331952410267648?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drug-running<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m3ioJGMCr-Y\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=m3ioJGMCr-Y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warmongering<\/a>\u00a0Central Intelligence Agency from the very beginning. The author even writes &#8220;The New York Times\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/o\/FtofX\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/26\/us\/politics\/russia-afghanistan-bounties.html\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/o\/FtofX\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/26\/us\/politics\/russia-afghanistan-bounties.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first reported<\/a>\u00a0last summer the existence of the C.I.A.&#8217;s assessment,&#8221; with the hyperlink leading to the initial article which made no mention of the CIA. It wasn&#8217;t\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/n3oBP\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/n3oBP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">until later<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0began reporting that the CIA was looking into the Russian bounties allegations at all.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sott.net\/embed\/swPx7PAhSJaDLpN4Qsuk_FvYt4D\" width=\"550\" height=\"699\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>This would be the same &#8220;Russian bounties&#8221; narrative which was\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/caityjohnstone.medium.com\/democrats-ignore-us-militarys-refutation-of-russian-bounties-story-334b057e0840\" href=\"https:\/\/caityjohnstone.medium.com\/democrats-ignore-us-militarys-refutation-of-russian-bounties-story-334b057e0840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discredited<\/a>\u00a0all the way back in September when the top US military official in Afghanistan said no satisfactory\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/national-security\/u-s-commander-intel-still-hasn-t-established-russia-paid-n1240020\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/national-security\/u-s-commander-intel-still-hasn-t-established-russia-paid-n1240020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evidence<\/a>\u00a0had surfaced for the allegations, which was further discredited today with a new article by\u00a0<em>The Daily Beast<\/em>\u00a0titled &#8220;<a title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/us-intel-walks-back-claim-russians-put-bounties-on-american-troops\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/us-intel-walks-back-claim-russians-put-bounties-on-american-troops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Intel Walks Back Claim Russians Put Bounties on American Troops<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Beast<\/em>, which has itself uncritically\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aaronjmate\/status\/1382720830178754562?s=20\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aaronjmate\/status\/1382720830178754562?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0many articles promoting the CIA &#8220;Bountygate&#8221; narrative, reports the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"typ1\"><p>It was a\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/26\/us\/politics\/russia-afghanistan-bounties.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/26\/us\/politics\/russia-afghanistan-bounties.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blockbuster story<\/a>\u00a0about Russia&#8217;s return to the imperial &#8220;Great Game&#8221; in Afghanistan. The Kremlin had spread money around the longtime central Asian battlefield for militants to kill remaining U.S. forces. It sparked a massive outcry from Democrats and their #resistance amplifiers about the treasonous Russian puppet in the White House whose admiration for Vladimir Putin had endangered American troops.<\/p>\n<p>But on Thursday, the Biden administration announced that U.S. intelligence only had &#8220;low to moderate&#8221; confidence in the story after all. Translated from the jargon of spyworld, that means the intelligence agencies have found the story is, at best, unproven \u2014 and possibly untrue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sott.net\/embed\/F_OgeZPCUhOsgzOGcuNaCCpLpAV\" width=\"550\" height=\"700\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>So the mass media aggressively promoted a CIA narrative that none of them ever saw proof of, because there was no proof, because it was an entirely unfounded claim from the very beginning.\u00a0<strong>They quite literally ran a CIA press release and disguised it as a news story.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This allowed the CIA to\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2020\/07\/02\/house-democrats-working-with-liz-cheney-restrict-trumps-planned-withdrawal-of-troops-from-afghanistan-and-germany\/\" href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2020\/07\/02\/house-democrats-working-with-liz-cheney-restrict-trumps-planned-withdrawal-of-troops-from-afghanistan-and-germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">throw shade<\/a>\u00a0and inertia on Trump&#8217;s proposed troop withdrawals from Afghanistan and Germany, and to continue\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2020\/07\/01\/why-us-empire-works-so-hard-to-control-the-international-narrative-about-russia\/\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2020\/07\/01\/why-us-empire-works-so-hard-to-control-the-international-narrative-about-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ramping up<\/a>\u00a0anti-Russia sentiments on the world stage, and may well have contributed to the fact that the agency will officially be among those who\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/UO3w8#selection-985.43-985.205\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/UO3w8#selection-985.43-985.205\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are exempt<\/a>\u00a0from Biden&#8217;s performative\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2021\/04\/15\/secdef-austin-hints-at-continued-us-military-involvement-in-afghanistan\/\" href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2021\/04\/15\/secdef-austin-hints-at-continued-us-military-involvement-in-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afghanistan &#8220;withdrawal&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In totalitarian dictatorships, the government spy agency tells the news media what stories to run, and the news media unquestioningly publish it. In free democracies, the government spy agency says &#8220;Hoo buddy, have I got a scoop for you!&#8221; and the news media unquestioningly publish it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1977 Carl Bernstein published an article titled &#8220;<a title=\"http:\/\/www.carlbernstein.com\/magazine_cia_and_media.php\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carlbernstein.com\/magazine_cia_and_media.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The CIA and the Media<\/a>&#8221; reporting that the CIA had\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/ipfs.io\/ipns\/QmNqHuSVuufkBKK1LHtoUmKETobZriC1o5uoiXSoLX2i3K\/how-the-cia-plants-news-stories-in-the-media\/\" href=\"https:\/\/ipfs.io\/ipns\/QmNqHuSVuufkBKK1LHtoUmKETobZriC1o5uoiXSoLX2i3K\/how-the-cia-plants-news-stories-in-the-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covertly infiltrated<\/a>\u00a0America&#8217;s most influential news outlets and had over 400 reporters who it considered assets in a program known as\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@LaurenvonB\/operation-mockingbird-the-cias-history-of-media-manipulation-history-fe10cc2f3f9b\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@LaurenvonB\/operation-mockingbird-the-cias-history-of-media-manipulation-history-fe10cc2f3f9b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Operation Mockingbird<\/a>. It was a major scandal, and rightly so. The news media is meant to report truthfully about what happens in the world, not manipulate public perception to suit the agendas of spooks and warmongers.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"BoldRed\">Nowadays the CIA collaboration happens right out in the open,<\/span>\u00a0<strong>and people are too propagandized to even recognize this as scandalous.<\/strong>\u00a0Immensely influential outlets like\u00a0<em>The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0uncritically pass on CIA disinfo which is then\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1382777804014641152?s=20\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1382777804014641152?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spun<\/a>\u00a0as fact by cable news pundits. The sole owner of\u00a0<em>The Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0is a CIA\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/why-amazons-collaboration_b_4824854\" href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/why-amazons-collaboration_b_4824854\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contractor<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>and WaPo has never once disclosed this conflict of interest<\/strong>\u00a0when reporting on US intelligence agencies per standard journalistic protocol. Mass media outlets now openly\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2018\/02\/05\/deep-state-veterans-find-new-homes-in-mainstream-media\/\" href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2018\/02\/05\/deep-state-veterans-find-new-homes-in-mainstream-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">employ<\/a>\u00a0intelligence agency veterans\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1382856410443186179\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1382856410443186179\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like<\/a>\u00a0<strong>John Brennan, James Clapper, Chuck Rosenberg, Michael Hayden, Frank Figliuzzi, Fran Townsend, Stephen Hall, Samantha Vinograd, Andrew McCabe, Josh Campbell, Asha Rangappa, Phil Mudd, James Gagliano, Jeremy Bash, Susan Hennessey, Ned Price<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Rick Francona<\/strong>, as are\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2014\/09\/04\/former-l-times-reporter-cleared-stories-cia-publication\/\" href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2014\/09\/04\/former-l-times-reporter-cleared-stories-cia-publication\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">known<\/a>\u00a0CIA assets like NBC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ken Dilanian<\/strong>, as are\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/CNN\/Programs\/anderson.cooper.360\/blog\/2006\/09\/my-summer-job-nearly-20-years-ago.html\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/CNN\/Programs\/anderson.cooper.360\/blog\/2006\/09\/my-summer-job-nearly-20-years-ago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIA interns<\/a>\u00a0like\u00a0<strong>Anderson Cooper<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/theweek.com\/speedreads\/689969\/tucker-carlson-tried-join-cia\" href=\"https:\/\/theweek.com\/speedreads\/689969\/tucker-carlson-tried-join-cia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CIA applicants<\/a>\u00a0like\u00a0<strong>Tucker Carlson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sott.net\/embed\/q1JUgNG7c1nY_nBqRKkXOBst_9F\" width=\"550\" height=\"565\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t Operation Mockingbird. It&#8217;s so much worse. Operation Mockingbird was the CIA doing something\u00a0<strong><em>to<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the media. What we are seeing now is the CIA openly acting\u00a0<em><strong>as<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0the media. Any separation between the CIA and the news media, indeed even any\u00a0<em>pretence<\/em>\u00a0of separation, has been dropped.<\/p>\n<p>This is bad. This is very, very bad.\u00a0<strong>Democracy has no meaningful existence if people&#8217;s votes aren&#8217;t being cast with a clear understanding of what&#8217;s happening in their nation and their world, and if their understanding is being shaped to suit the agendas of the very government they&#8217;re meant to be influencing with their votes, what you have is the most powerful military and economic force in the history of civilization with no accountability to the electorate whatsoever.<\/strong>\u00a0It&#8217;s just an immense globe-spanning power structure, doing whatever it wants to whoever it wants. A totalitarian dictatorship in disguise.<\/p>\n<p>And the CIA is the very worst institution that could possibly be spearheading the movements of that dictatorship. A little research into the\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/whatwhenwhy.net\/worst-intelligence-agency-in-the-world\/\" href=\"https:\/\/whatwhenwhy.net\/worst-intelligence-agency-in-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">many, many horrific things<\/a>\u00a0the CIA has done over the years will quickly show you that this is true; hell, just a glance at\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phoenix_Program#Torture\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phoenix_Program#Torture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">what the CIA was up to<\/a>\u00a0with the Phoenix Program in Vietnam will.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sott.net\/embed\/-Y7skoePfLmajdXFpcLvxRDZMmM\" width=\"550\" height=\"377\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>There&#8217;s a common delusion in our society that depraved government agencies who are known to have done evil things in the past have simply stopped doing evil things for some reason. This belief is backed by zero evidence, and is contradicted by mountains of evidence to the contrary. It&#8217;s believed because it is comfortable, and for literally no other reason.<\/p>\n<p>The CIA should not exist at all, let alone control the news media, much less the movements of the US empire.
