Ned Lamont signed into law on Wednesday a bill that ends religious exemptions from mandatory school vaccinations in the state. Medical exemptions from immunizations remain in effect.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSerious illnesses that have been well-controlled for many decades, such as measles, tuberculosis, and whooping cough&#8230; have reemerged,\u201d Lamont said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/Office-of-the-Governor\/News\/Press-Releases\/2021\/04-2021\/Governor-Lamont-Signs-Legislation-Updating-School-Immunization-Requirements\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number of children in our state who have not received routine vaccinations has been steadily increasing, which has been mirrored by significant growth in preventable diseases across the nation,\u201d he continued.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Parents may still choose not to vaccinate their children on medical grounds, but the \u201cbill best ensures that other children and their families will not be exposed to these deadly diseases for hours each day in our schools,\u201d Lamont said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1270517907-700x420_0.jpg?itok=RcwTq6fK\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1270517907-700x420_0.jpg?itok=RcwTq6fK\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/GettyImages-1270517907-700x420_0.jpg?itok=RcwTq6fK\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"c0fb4485-7314-4f24-ac58-942ce64db039\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The measure\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/asp\/cgabillstatus\/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&amp;bill_num=SB00568&amp;which_year=2021\">applies to<\/a>\u00a0public and private schools, higher education institutions, and children in daycare settings.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was voted in the majority Democrat\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/asp\/menu\/slist.asp\">Connecticut Senate<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday and passed 22 to 14,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/politics\/hc-pol-vaccines-exemption-connecticut-vote-20210427-lzql55kx7vep3pohq4y2ad2e3i-story.html\">Hartford Courant reported<\/a>. All Republican Senators voted against it, while all but two Democrats voted for it. The new legislation will\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/2021\/FC\/PDF\/2021SB-00568-R000555-FC.PDF\">take effect<\/a>\u00a0at the beginning of the 2022 school year.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in April, the bill to eliminate the religious exemption from mandatory immunization was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/asp\/cgabillstatus\/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&amp;bill_num=HB06423&amp;which_year=2021\">approved<\/a>\u00a0by the Connecticut House of Representatives,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ctmirror.org\/2021\/04\/20\/bill-that-would-eliminate-cts-religious-exemption-from-mandatory-vaccines-clears-house\/\">The CT Mirror<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<p>Connecticut Senate minority leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ctsenaterepublicans.com\/about-kelly\/\">Kevin Kelly<\/a>\u00a0(R) was quoted as saying,\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cWe believe in individuals. We believe that families, mothers and fathers, know how to take care of their children. Kennedy Jr<\/a>., founder, chairman of the board, and chief legal counsel for Children\u2019s Health Defense, spoke at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/rfk-jr-rally-preserve-religious-exemption-connecticut\/\">rally<\/a>\u00a0and urged senators to vote no on the bill.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/DPH\/Immunizations\/School-Survey\">Connecticut Department of Public Health<\/a>\u00a0reported the results of a survey that found the total vaccination rate of students entering school in the 2019-2020 school year was close to 98 percent. Sen.
