{"id":64674,"date":"2021-05-11T16:23:22","date_gmt":"2021-05-11T20:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=64674"},"modified":"2021-05-11T16:23:44","modified_gmt":"2021-05-11T20:23:44","slug":"now-why-really-did-the-new-sec-enforcement-director-jump-ship-after-only-5-days-too-upright","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=64674","title":{"rendered":"Now why really did the new SEC Enforcement Director jump ship after only 5 days&#8212;too upright?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>SEC Enforcement Director Alex Oh Quits After 5 Days: What You Need To Know<\/h1>\n<p>Phil Hall , Benzinga Staff Writer<\/p>\n<div class=\"node-left-corner\">\n<div><a class=\"colorbox cboxElement\" title=\" \" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.benzinga.com\/files\/imagecache\/1024x768xUP\/images\/story\/2012\/alex_oh.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"imagecache imagecache-story_image_685x375C\" title=\"Exxon Mobil Corporation NYSE:XOM - SEC Enforcement Director Alex Oh Quits After 5 Days: What You Need To Know\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.benzinga.com\/files\/imagecache\/story_image_685x375C\/images\/story\/2012\/alex_oh.jpg\" alt=\"SEC Enforcement Director Alex Oh Quits After 5 Days: What You Need To Know\" width=\"685\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-content-body-only\">\n<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reported the resignation of Alex Oh as director of the Division of Enforcement after only five days on the job.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Happened:<\/strong>\u00a0The SEC announcement of Oh\u2019s departure only cited \u201cpersonal reasons\u201d for her abrupt exit.<\/p>\n<p>Oh worked for two decades at the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton &amp; Garrison prior to joining the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/04\/28\/sec-alex-oh-resignation-484955\">Politico<\/a>\u00a0report, she was part of a reprimand issued on Monday by a federal judge for her conduct in defending\u00a0<strong>ExxonMobil<\/strong>\u00a0<span class=\"bztwnegative\"><a id=\"bztwredarrow\" class=\"ticker bztwwidgethover\" title=\"XOM\" href=\"https:\/\/benzinga.com\/stock\/xom#NYSE\" data-ticker=\"XOM\">XOM 3.34%<\/a><\/span>\u00a0in a class-action lawsuit brought by Indonesian villagers who sought to hold the oil company liable for murder and torture committed by the Indonesian military from 1999 and 2001, when the company hired soldiers to protect its natural gas facilities in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Oh had also been the target of progressive political organizations who felt her legal record made her unsuitable for the position.
