The\u00a0Centers for Disease Control\u00a0and Prevention is looking into reports of teenagers and young adults experiencing heart problems shortly after taking the second dose of the Pzifer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID vaccine.<\/strong><\/p>\n The CDC\u2019s vaccine safety group is investigating reports that a \u201csmall number\u201d of recently-vaccinated teens and young adults have experienced myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle which can occur following certain infections.<\/p>\n \u201cMost cases appear to be mild, and follow-up of cases is ongoing,\u201d the vaccine safety group\u00a0said<\/a>.<\/p>\n Infectious disease specialist Dr. Celine Gounder told the\u00a0New York Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that the young people experiencing heart issues after taking the Pfizer or Moderna jab could just \u201cbe a coincidence.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt may simply be a coincidence that some people are developing myocarditis after vaccination,\u201d Gounder said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s more likely for something like that to happen by chance, because so many people are getting vaccinated right now.\u201d<\/p>\n In general, between 10 to 20 people out of 100,000 suffer from myocarditis.<\/p>\n Symptoms of\u00a0myocarditis<\/a>\u00a0include fatigue, chest pain and arrhythmias (a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat) and cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n This comes days after the Food and Drug Administration\u00a0approved<\/a>\u00a0Pfizer\u2019s COVID vaccine for Emergency Use for children 12-15 years old.<\/p>\n
