Paul, who is an\u00a0ophthalmologist, said that he has not seen evidence proving the vaccine is more effective than having survived the\u00a0CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus<\/a>, otherwise known as the novel coronavirus, so he won\u2019t get the shot.<\/p>\n \u201cUntil they show me evidence that people who have already had the infection are dying in large numbers, or being hospitalized or getting very sick, I just made my own personal decision that I\u2019m not getting vaccinated because I\u2019ve already had the disease and I have natural immunity,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Paul, who appears to be the first senator to announce he won\u2019t get vaccinated, told WABC 770 AM on Sunday,\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to news reports.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Paul has made similar remarks in the past when interviewed about vaccines. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who also recovered from COVID-19, suggested he wouldn\u2019t get vaccine earlier this year.<\/p>\n Paul tested positive for COVID-19 in March 2020, becoming the first senator to contract the virus. At the time, Paul said he did not develop any notable symptoms and wasn\u2019t hospitalized.<\/p>\n The senator also noted that the pressure from various institutions to get vaccinated flies in the face of individual liberty.<\/p>\n \u201cIn a free country you would think people would honor the idea that each individual would get to make the medical decision, that it wouldn\u2019t be a big brother coming to tell me what I have to do,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Paul said in the interview, suggesting that the pressure campaign around vaccines could be an attempt to manufacture consent for other power grabs.<\/p>\n \u201cAre they also going to tell me I can\u2019t have a cheeseburger for lunch? Are they going to tell me that I have to eat carrots only and cut my calories?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>the Kentucky senator said.<\/p>\n \u201cAll that would probably be good for me, but I don\u2019t think big brother ought to tell me to do it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)\u00a0has recommended<\/a>\u00a0that people who have recovered from the CCP virus get vaccinated, arguing that health officials don\u2019t know how long natural immunity lasts.<\/p>\n \u201cEven if you have already recovered from COVID-19, it is possible\u2014although rare\u2014that you could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 again,\u201d the CDC says on its website.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Paul\u2019s comments come as some states and municipalities have attempted to place pressure on businesses trying to reopen by ascertaining whether their employees have been vaccinated.<\/p>\n Last week, Oregon\u00a0became<\/a>\u00a0the first state to require that individuals in workplaces, businesses, and houses of worship show proof of vaccination before entering facilities without wearing masks.
