Gender reassignment surgery causes depression and exacerbates mental illness<\/h4>\n
\u201cI can’t believe that I transitioned and detransitioned, including hormones and surgery, in the course of, like, less than one year. It’s completely crazy,\u201d one young woman told interviewer Leslie Stahl.<\/p>\n
A young man told Stahl that he similarly went from taking hormones to getting his testicles removed within just three months. Then after breast augmentation surgery, he was so unhappy he wanted to kill himself, so he \u2018detransitioned,\u2019 hoping to recover as much of his life as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe rarely talk about the details of any of it. \u2018It\u2019s all good,\u2019 we\u2019re told. It\u2019s part of a vital long overdue process of personal liberation and if you stand in the way or ask too many questions you are evil,\u201d explained Carlson. Yet \u201cif you ask questions about the wisdom of gender reassignment surgery, you\u2019ll be accused immediately of pushing the vulnerable toward self-harm. \u201cIn a 2016 document called the Proposed Decision Memo for Gender Dysphoria and Gender Reassignment Surgery<\/em>, Obama officials concluded that:<\/p>\nBased on a thorough review of the clinical evidence available at this time, there is not enough evidence to determine whether gender reassignment surgery improves health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries with gender dysphoria.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\u201cWhy wasn\u2019t there enough evidence? The Obama administration found that many sex change patients were quote, ‘lost to follow-up.’ Why is that? Many of those patients apparently had killed themselves,\u201d suggested Carson.<\/p>\n
Billy Burleigh, a man who transitioned to female before reverting to male seven years later, said that he experienced gender dysphoria as a child and sought the help of a gender therapist while in college.<\/p>\n
He spent five years in therapy, and after doing his own research, concluded, \u201cI had to transform my body to match my mind for me to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
