After 100s Suffer Heart Inflammation Following COVID Vaccines<\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->ZeroHedge.com<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Update (2000ET)<\/strong><\/u>:\u00a0<strong>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday that it will convene an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/acip\/index.html\">\u00a0&#8220;emergency meeting&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0of its advisers on June 18th to discuss rare but higher-than-expected reports of heart inflammation following doses of the mRNA-based Pfizer and Moderna\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/feature\/coronavirus\/\">COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/covid-19-vaccine-faq\/\">vaccines.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new details about myocarditis and pericarditis emerged first in presentations to a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/advisory-committees\/advisory-committee-calendar\/vaccines-and-related-biological-products-advisory-committee-june-10-2021-meeting-announcement\">\u00a0panel of independent advisers<\/a>\u00a0for the Food and Drug Administration, who are meeting Thursday to discuss how the regulator should approach emergency use authorization for using COVID-19 vaccines in younger children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/covid-19-vaccine-myocarditis-heart-inflammation-cdc\/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7e\"><em>As CBS reports,<\/em><\/a>\u00a0the CDC\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/myocarditis.html\">previously disclosed<\/a>\u00a0that reports of heart inflammation were detected mostly in younger men and teenage boys following their second dose,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/acip\/work-groups-vast\/report-2021-05-24.html\">\u00a0and that there was<\/a>\u00a0a &#8220;higher number of observed than expected&#8221; Zachary Stieber detailed earlier<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Federal authorities have received over 800 reports of heart inflammation in people who received a COVID-19 vaccine, a health official said Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/pfizer-syringes-700x420.jpg?itok=SuQlE09W\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/pfizer-syringes-700x420.jpg?itok=SuQlE09W\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/pfizer-syringes-700x420.jpg?itok=SuQlE09W\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"cf8a3fd7-1a5a-4471-901b-20e54aa9ff30\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The reports of myocarditis or pericarditis were submitted to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-vaccine\">Vaccine<\/a>\u00a0Adverse Event Reporting System,\u00a0<\/strong>a passive reporting system run jointly by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration, through May 31.<\/p>\n<p>The bulk of the reports described heart inflammation appearing after the second of two doses of either the Pfizer of Moderna vaccines, both of which utilize messenger RNA technology.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities stress that anybody can submit reports through the reporting system but authorities have already verified that 226 of the reports meet the CDC\u2019s working case definition, Dr. Tom Shimabukuro, a deputy director at the agency, said during a presentation of the data. Followup and review are in progress for the rest.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 285 case reports for which the disposition was known at the time of the review, 270 patients had been discharged and 15 were still hospitalized, officials said. Myocarditis typically requires hospital care. (FDA\/Screenshot via The Epoch Times)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The CDC\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/cdc-investigating-heart-inflammation-in-covid-19-vaccinated-teens-young-adults_3826981.html\">announced last month<\/a>\u00a0that it was investigating reports of heart inflammation in teenagers and young adults who received a COVID-19 vaccine, though it took no definitive action besides saying it would continue reviewing case data.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An advisory committee to the agency, the\u00a0Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, said in a little-noticed update published dated May 24 and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/acip\/work-groups-vast\/report-2021-05-24.html\">published on June 1<\/a>\u00a0that data from VAERS\u00a0showed that in the 30 days following the second dose of mRNA vaccinations, \u201cthere was a higher number of observed than expected myocarditis\/pericarditis cases in 16\u201324-year-olds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data from the Vaccine Safety Datalink, an active reporting system that relies on nine healthcare organizations in seven states, did not show higher than expected cases, it added.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cHowever, analyses suggest that these data need to be carefully followed as more persons in younger age groups are vaccinated,\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0the advisory committee\u2019s vaccine safety workgroup said in its report.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Health Ministry\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/israel-sees-probable-link-between-pfizer-vaccine-and-rare-myocarditis-cases_3840861.html\">said that same day<\/a>\u00a0that it found 275 cases of heart inflammation among the more than 5 million people in the country who received a vaccine between December 2020 and May. An Israeli study found \u201ca probable link\u201d between receiving the second dose of the Pfizer jab \u201cand the appearance of myocarditis among men aged 16 to 30,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shimabukuro said the U.S. passive surveillance data \u201care consistent with the surveillance data that emerged from Israel.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The figures are also consistent with other case reports and data from the Department of Defense.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of the U.S. reports deal with male patients. (Chris Aluka Berry\/Reuters)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A case report\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/20805541-symptomatic-acute-myocarditis-in-seven-adolescents\">examining myocarditis in seven adolescents<\/a>\u00a0following vaccination with Pfizer\u2019s jab, published in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, this month, said all seven developed the inflammation within 4 days of receiving the second dose, did not have evidence of COVID-19 infection, and did not meet the criteria for MIS-C, a rare disease.<\/p>\n<p>The seven males, between the ages of 14 and 19, all required hospital care but each was eventually discharged.<\/p>\n<p>Authors, who did not respond to requests for comment, said no link has been established between the vaccines and myocarditis and that the benefits of the vaccines outweigh the risks. But they also urged healthcare workers \u201cto consider myocarditis in the evaluation of adolescents and young adults who develop chest pain after COVID-19 vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/20805542-pediatrics-commentary-on-myocarditis-after-covid-19-vaccination-study\">commentary on the study<\/a>\u00a0published in the same journal, said \u201cthere are some concerns regarding this case series that might suggest a causal relationship and therefore warrant further analysis through established surveillance systems.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFirst, the consistent timing of symptoms in these seven cases after the second vaccination suggests a uniform biological process. Second, the similarities in clinical findings and laboratory characteristics in this series suggest a common etiology. Finally, these cases occurred in the context of a dearth of circulation of common respiratory viruses known to be associated with myocarditis, and thorough diagnostic evaluations did not identify infectious etiologies,\u201d they added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The expected number of myocarditis\/pericarditis cases in those aged 16 or 17, based on background incidence rates and the number of doses administered to that population through May 31, is between two and 19. But based on the VAERS reports, the number is 79.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Likewise, the expected number for cases among young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 is eight to 83. (FDA\/Screenshot via The Epoch Times)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Data from the Vaccine Safety Datalink, which comes from nine healthcare groups that have collectively administered over 8.8 million doses\u2014only some 284,000 of those have been given to 12- to 17-year-olds\u2014did not indicate safety concerns, with just 60 myocarditis or pericarditis events reported through May 29, the doctor continued.<\/p>\n<p>A Food and Drug Administration surveillance system,\u00a0the Biologics Effectiveness and Safety Initiative, which utilizes claims data from CVS and two other partners, has detected 99 cases of myocarditis\/pericarditis in the 42 days following vaccination among some 3.1 million shots given to people between the ages of 12 and 64, the panel was told earlier by an official from the drug regulating agency.<\/p>\n<p>Another 1,260 were reported in people 65 or older through claims data from Medicare claims data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neither number raised safety signals, Steve Anderson, director of the FDA\u2019s Office of Biostatistics and Epidemiology said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cody Meissner, chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at the Tufts Children\u2019s Hospital, and a member of the panel that heard from Shimabukuro and others, said\u00a0<strong>after the presentations that he was \u201cstruck by the fact\u201d that myocarditis \u201coccurs more commonly after the second dose.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty specific interval of time, it\u2019s primarily after the mRNA vaccines as far as we know, we know that the consistent age, there\u2019s a lack of alternative explanations even though these patients have been pretty well worked up, and it\u2019s a widespread occurrence because, as you said, Israel has found a pretty similar situation,\u201d he said during the meeting.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He asked Shimabukuro about the rates of blood clots seen in women between the ages of 30 and 49 after vaccination\u2014most of the clots appeared in that population after getting a Johnson &amp; Johnson shot, though officials ultimately lifted a pause,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pause-on-johnson-johnson-covid-19-vaccine-lifted-cdc-vaccine-advisory-committee_3789016.html\">saying the benefits outweighed the risks<\/a>\u2014and to restate the rate of incidence of myocarditis in adolescents after a jab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shimabukuro said that in contrast with the clotting situation, when data showed \u201cstrong evidence of a causal relationship fairly early on,\u201d further study is needed on heart inflammation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point, I think we\u2019re still learning about the rates of myocarditis and pericarditis. (Tami Chappell\/Reuters)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another panel member, Dr. Jay Portnoy, director of the Division of Allergy, Asthma, &amp; Immunology at Children\u2019s Mercy Hospitals &amp; Clinics, asked for a comparison between the adverse events in vaccinated versus unvaccinated persons, saying if the adverse event rate was lower in those who are vaccinated, then it would still be worth getting a jab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shimabukuro said a risk-benefit assessment would be provided by the CDC\u2019s advisory panel, known as ACIP, on vaccines during a meeting next week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A CDC spokeswoman also referenced the upcoming meeting, which will take place on June 18, after saying reports of myocarditis remain rare, given that over 300 million doses have been administered in the United States.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cGiven the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered, these reports are rare. More than 18 million people between ages 12-24 have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in the United States,\u201d she told The Epoch Times via email.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cCDC continues to recommend COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 12 years and older.
