John McAfee\u2019s lawyer says anti-virus tycoon showed no indication he would take his own life<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The lawyer for anti-virus software tycoon John McAfee \u2013 who was found dead in his Spanish jail cell on Wednesday while awaiting extradition to the United States \u2013 says he saw no indication the businessman wanted to kill himself.<\/p>\n

Javier Villalba told\u00a0Reuters<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday that he\u00a0\u201chad constant telephone contact\u201d<\/em>\u00a0with McAfee and\u00a0\u201cat no point had he shown any special worry or clue that could let us think this could have happened.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Villalba added that McAfee\u2019s death was particularly painful\u00a0\u201cbecause it was not justified under any circumstance that this man remained in the jail.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

McAfee had been incarcerated in Barcelona, Spain since October last year as the United States sought his extradition for alleged tax evasion. McAfee was\u00a0found dead<\/a>\u00a0in his cell just hours after the Spanish National Court approved his transfer to the US.<\/p>\n

Conspiracy theories surrounding McAfee\u2019s death have since blown up on social media, due to previous statements by the businessman which warned that if he is found dead of an apparent suicide\u00a0\u201ca la Epstein\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in the future, he was\u00a0\u201cwhackd.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On Father\u2019s Day, several days before McAfee\u2019s death, his wife Janice McAfee published a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0claiming that the US government wanted her husband to\u00a0\u201cdie in prison\u201d<\/em>\u00a0to\u00a0\u201cmake an example of him for speaking out against corruption within their government agencies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no hope for him ever having a fair trial in America because there is no longer any justice in America,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she declared, before concluding that the eight months her husband had spent in jail had been\u00a0\u201chard on his overall health both mentally and physically.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, John McAfee had tweeted that he had\u00a0\u201cnothing\u201d<\/em>\u00a0left financially, despite the US government thinking he has\u00a0\u201chidden\u201d<\/em>\u00a0cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I did but it has dissolved through the many hands of Team McAfee (your belief is not required), and my remaining assets are all seized,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said, claiming his friends had also\u00a0\u201cevaporated through fear of association.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI have nothing. Yet, I regret nothing,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0McAfee concluded.
\nMcAfee faced up to 30 years in prison in the US if found guilty of tax evasion.<\/p>\n
