Media reports on this study in March\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2021\/03\/14\/facebook-vaccine-hesistancy-qanon\/\">claimed that it showed<\/a>\u00a0that non-rule breaking Facebook content may be causing \u201csubstantial\u201d harm.<\/p>\n<p>If Facebook were to comply with this subpoena, it would likely impact millions of users. Facebook has removed more than 18 million pieces of content from Facebook and Instagram for violating its COVID-19 misinformation rules and applied warning labels to more than 167 million pieces of COVID-19 content.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoena is part of a previously undisclosed investigation into whether Facebook is violating consumer protection laws.<\/p>\n<p>Racine\u2019s director of communications, Abbie McDonough,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/07\/01\/dc-ag-subpoenas-facebook-497705\">told Politico<\/a>\u00a0that the investigation is part of an effort to ensure that Facebook cracks down on \u201cvaccine misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ifw-player expanded\" data-video-id=\"60dfa6465a2e6c3e8056ab02\">\n<div><iframe src=\"https:\/\/api.banned.video\/embed\/60dfa6465a2e6c3e8056ab02\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Alex Jones responds to completely inaccurate attacks on his character and history from Joe Budden, a podcaster who dislikes what he calls \u201cright wing Roganers\u201d such as podcaster Joe Rogan, Andrew Schulz, and syndicated radio host Alex Jones.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacebook has said it\u2019s taking action to address the proliferation of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation on its site,\u201d McDonough said. \u201cBut then when pressed to show its work, Facebook refused. AG Racine\u2019s investigation aims to make sure Facebook is truly taking all steps possible to minimize vaccine misinformation on its site and support public health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move follows previous reports of Democrats working with Big Tech to censor content that they deem to be misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Most notably, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimthenet.org\/twitter-california-democrats-sued-cenorship-election-conversations\/\">recent lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0showed evidence of Democrats flagging alleged misinformation to Twitter via a \u201cpartner portal\u201d and Twitter responding by removing the flagged tweets.<\/p>\n<p>Another example of this is Democrats\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimthenet.org\/democrats-push-facebook-twitter-2-prominent-vaccine-skeptics\/\">demanding that Facebook and Twitter \u201caddress\u201d 12 prominent vaccine skeptics<\/a>\u00a0in April.
