Transgender Biological Male Cleared To Compete In Women’s Weightlifting In Tokyo Olympics<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In continuing with the total farce this year’s Olympics has become thanks to Tokyo’s overzealous response to Covid, the International Olympic Committee has given the “all clear” for a transgender biological male to compete on behalf of New Zealand in the\u00a0women\u2019s weightlifting super-heavyweight category.<\/p>\n

43 year old Laurel Hubbard’s inclusion “does not violate the current rules on the books,” the committee ruled, according to the\u00a0New York Post<\/a>. She would be the first transgender athlete to compete in the Olympic Games, despite the fact that transgender athletes have been allowed to compete in the Olympics since 2015.<\/p>\n

IOC head\u00a0Thomas Bach commented:\u00a0\u201cThe rules for qualification have been established by the International Weightlifting Federation before the qualifications started.\u00a0These rules apply, and you cannot change rules during ongoing competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bach also noted the rules were “currently under evaluation” and would be reviewed “at a later date”, the\u00a0Post\u00a0<\/em>wrote.<\/p>\n

He continued:\u00a0\u201cThe IOC is in an inquiry phase with all different stakeholders\u2026 to review these rules and finally to come up with some guidelines, which cannot be rules because this is a question where there is no one-size-fits-all solution. It differs from sport to sport.\u201d<\/p>\n

The idea of transgender women in sports remains a point of contention in the U.S., with\u00a0states like Florida and Montana looking to bar then from middle school and high school sports. Skeptics argue that “women” who go through bone and muscle development as biological men have (obviously) unfair advantages.<\/p>\n
