AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka has unexpectedly died at the age of 72,\u00a0Politico<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n

Trumka, 72, had served as president of the federation, which represents more than 12.5 million workers, for more than a decade and has been a close ally of the Biden White House.<\/em><\/p>\n

Trumka died of what was believed to be a heart attack,<\/strong>\u00a0a source familiar with the matter said. It was unclear when exactly it occurred though\u00a0believed to have taken place either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Trumka’s death comes just one week after he endorsed\u00a0mandatory vaccinations<\/a>\u00a0for union workers following months of vaccine advocacy.<\/p>\n
