{"id":83788,"date":"2021-09-10T09:06:58","date_gmt":"2021-09-10T13:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=83788"},"modified":"2021-09-10T09:06:58","modified_gmt":"2021-09-10T13:06:58","slug":"since-when-does-this-ever-happen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=83788","title":{"rendered":"Since when DOES THIS EVER HAPPEN?!?!?!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>German Finance Ministry Raided Over Failing To Report &amp; Investigate Money Laundering<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><!--more-->Zerohedge.com<\/p>\n<div class=\"NodeContent_body__2clki NodeBody_container__1M6aJ\">\n<p>On Thursday German prosecutors\u00a0<strong>raided the finance and justice ministries<\/strong>\u00a0over accusations that the government&#8217;s\u00a0anti-money laundering agency, the Finance Intelligence Unit (FIU),\u00a0<strong>failed to probe many instances of banks\u00a0laundering money<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations center on the FIU failing to pass on the reports to the police and the judiciary, however,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/german-finance-justice-ministries-searched-in-fraud-probe\/a-59133201\">it is<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;still unclear if the FIU failed to pass on the reports of fraud of its own accord, or was\u00a0<strong>directed to do so by someone at one or both of the ministries<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caption caption-img inline-images image-style-inline-images\" role=\"group\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/financeministry.jpg?itok=BWnJcPOS\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"266\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"0931a981-7d5f-4335-b6ab-b198580fed8d\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><figcaption><em>The German Federal Ministry of Finance building in Berlin, via Shutterstock<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"Advert_desktop__1J5vD Advert_tablet__3QEBr Advert_mobile__1rlLc Advert_placement__1I4yb Advert_align__N0_fw\">\n<aside id=\"in-content-video\" class=\"Advert_verticallySpaced__wnPy3\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/21841313772,21778456762\/zerohedge\/in_content_video_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s believed the FIU (which is part of the Finance Ministry) looked the other way while cash &#8220;in the millions&#8221; was laundered, mainly from Africa.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not the first time that the financial crimes oversight agency has come under scrutiny in recent months:\u00a0<strong>&#8220;The organization has also been suspected of covering up fraud committed by the German\u00a0fintech company Wirecard,\u00a0which collapsed last year in spectacular fashion,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/german-finance-justice-ministries-searched-in-fraud-probe\/a-59133201\">DW<\/a>\u00a0writes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;This is a security risk for Germany,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0one lawmaker, Fabio De Masi\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/world\/articles\/2021-09-09\/german-prosecutors-search-ministries-over-money-laundering-probe\">said<\/a>, in the wake of the raid. &#8220;We need a financial police with criminal expertise.
