Sachs, who has long dismissed<\/a> the COVID-19 lab leak theory, is the Chair of the Lancet journal\u2019s Covid-19 Commission<\/a>. His lead role on the commission, which presented its findings<\/a> dismissing COVID-19 originating in a Chinese lab, allows<\/a> him to \u201coversee the investigation, not just into the origins of virus, but the world\u2019s reaction to it in order to make recommendations for strengthening pandemic preparedness globally.\u201d<\/p>\n But Sachs \u2013 like many other Western scientists cast by the media as impartial COVID-19 investigators like the World Health Organization\u2019s Peter<\/a> Daszak and Marion<\/a> Koopmans \u2013 has deep ties to the Chinese Communist Party.<\/p>\n As COVID-19 was spreading<\/a> across the U.S., Sachs appeared<\/a> on The China Current<\/em>, a show launched<\/a> by the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) propaganda group\u00a0in 2019. CUSEF was founded by a former Chinese Communist Party apparatchik who serves as the Vice-Chairman of the \u201chighest-ranking entity overseeing\u201d China\u2019s United Work Front\u00a0according<\/a>\u00a0to the U.S.-China Security and Economic Review Commission.<\/p>\n The effort, according to the U.S. government report, aims to \u201cto co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party\u201d and \u201cinfluence overseas Chinese communities, foreign governments, and other actors to take actions or adopt positions supportive of Beijing\u2019s preferred policies.\u201d<\/p>\n For more scoops like this, support our work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In practice, CUSEF has\u00a0set out to \u201ceffectively disseminate positive messages to the media, key influencers and opinion leaders, and the general public\u201d regarding the Chinese Communist Party, according to Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA)\u00a0filings<\/a>\u00a0with the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n The host\u2019s insistence that \u201cwe\u2019ve come to feel safe in your hands and in your ambitions,\u201d should serve as a major red flag.<\/p>\n Speaking on the podcast<\/a> in May 2020, Sachs also revealed his \u201copposition\u201d to \u201cconfronting China\u201d and belief that the Trump administration\u2019s hardline approach to the communist regime was \u201cdangerous, wrong, absurd, on false pretenses\u201d:<\/p>\n \u201cThe U.S. right-wing was attacking China beforehand and the Trump administration had its so-called trade war against China and then its technology war against China. I regarded those as dangerous, wrong, absurd, on false pretenses, but it showed China\u2019s successes of recent years had triggered a response by the American right-wing, the hardline nationalists to say we have to confront China and Trump was in the middle of confronting China, and I think very dangerously so and I opposed it all along.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n While rebuking \u201cnationalists [who] regard China as a threat,\u201d Sachs adds \u201cI just regard China as a successful country that has made its way from poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n Sachs has ties to another Chinese Communist Party group keen on influencing<\/a> American elites: CEFC China Energy.<\/a><\/p>\n CEFC China Energy\u2019s Chairman Patrick Ho was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice for \u201cschemes<\/a> to bribe top officials for business advantages,\u201d and used the committee \u201cto conceal his criminal scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n He was also a close business partner of Hunter Biden, as emails between the president\u2019s son and CEFC China Energy\u2019s founder Ye Jianming reveal a\u00a0potential contract for $10 million annually\u00a0\u201cfor introductions alone.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Later\u00a0emails<\/a> show Hunter Biden identifying<\/a> himself \u201cunequivocally with no room for different opinions or interpretation\u201d as a Managing Director of the Chinese military and government-linked company:<\/p>\n \u201cI am the managing director of CEFC. I have complete authority as to who I hire and who I fire. I have only employees that work for me in DC.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Sachs has spoken at CEFC events such as the Sino-US Colloquium and sat on the group\u2019s\u00a0Advisory Council<\/a> in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
