and has not reimbursed the city for security costs related to his presidential campaign, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/07\/nyregion\/de-blasio-security-detail.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a>, citing a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/doi\/press-releases\/2021\/October\/DOI_Report_re_Security_Detail.pdf\">city investigation<\/a>\u00a0released on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, de Blasio deployed his security detail to move his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/ahead-3rd-night-riots-looting-violent-protests-begin-phildadelphia\">activist daughter<\/a>\u00a0to Gracie Mansion, while the city spent nearly $320,000 for members of his security detail to travel during his presidential campaign trips in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/de%20blasio%20and.jpg?itok=JhJkgDB3\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/de%20blasio%20and.jpg?itok=JhJkgDB3\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/de%20blasio%20and.jpg?itok=JhJkgDB3\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"274\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"5fa65e82-15bf-4217-a86a-4e1463ffec7a\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"Advert_desktop__1J5vD Advert_tablet__3QEBr Advert_mobile__1rlLc Advert_placement__1I4yb Advert_align__N0_fw\">\n<aside id=\"in-content-video\" class=\"Advert_verticallySpaced__wnPy3\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/21841313772,21778456762\/zerohedge\/in_content_video_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em><strong>The report painted a deeply unflattering portrait of Mr. de Blasio\u2019s reliance on his security detail<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 behavior that a top investigator said amounted to the mayor having his own personal \u201cconcierge service\u201d to shuttle around relatives and staffers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em>It found that\u00a0<strong>the use of a police van and personnel to help move Mr. de Blasio\u2019s daughter was \u201ca misuse of N.Y.P.D. resources for a personal benefit,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>and that Howard Redmond, the police inspector in charge of the family\u2019s security detail, had \u201cactively obstructed and sought to thwart this investigation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em>At a news conference, Margaret Garnett, the commissioner of the investigation department, said that\u00a0<strong>Mr. Redmond had deleted communications and that he had tried to destroy his cellphone after he was told to surrender it.<\/strong>\u00a0She said that she had referred Mr. Redmond\u2019s conduct to the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s office for a criminal investigation into obstruction of justice.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>De Blaso, who has just three months left in office as he mulls a run for New York governor,\u00a0<strong>has faced multiple investigations into his fundraising practices\u00a0<\/strong>during his time in office &#8211; including a 2017 incident in which prosecutors raised questions but ultimately declined to bring criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The mayor pushed back on Thursday<\/strong>, criticizing the findings as &#8220;na\u00efve&#8221; and blaming advice he had received about using the detail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m honored to be the mayor of this city, but my first responsibility is as a father and a husband,&#8221; he said, adding &#8220;And so I think of the safety of my family all the time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Just not on his own dime, apparently.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, de Blasio&#8217;s misuse of his security detail during his failed presidential campaign in 2019 ran the city nearly $320,000 &#8211; which includes hotels, meals, rental cars and flights for members of the detail &#8211; who accompanied de Blasio on multiple campaign stops.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Government resources should be used for government business,&#8221; said Betsy Gotbaum, the executive director of Citizens Union, a good-government group, adding &#8220;The mayor should reimburse these funds immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em>The report also cited\u00a0<strong>several occasions where the mayor\u2019s detail was used to pick up his brother from the airport, and to drive him to pick up a Zipcar in Palmyra, N.J.<\/strong>\u00a0The detail also drove Mr. de Blasio\u2019s brother \u201cto an Alamo rental car location without the mayor present.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em>Asked if Mr. de Blasio was using his security detail as \u201cglorified Uber drivers,\u201d Ms. Garnett said there was a culture of treating the officers like they were City Hall staffers and a \u201cconcierge service.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-s99gbd StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\"><em>The report made recommendations to prevent the misuse of the mayor\u2019s security detail in the future.\u00a0<strong>One was for the Conflicts of Interest Board to publicly release advice for elected officials about the use of city resources in connection with political activities<\/strong>. -NYT<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition,\u00a0<strong>de Blasio&#8217;s security detail was used to drive his son, Dante, between NYC and Yale University in Connecticut<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; with one detective recalling that it happened &#8220;approximately seven or eight times without the mayor or first lady present.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After Dante graduated, he continued to benefit from his father&#8217;s taxpayer-funded security detail, as well as rides from the police every weekday morning from Gracie Mansion to his workplace in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio&#8217;s office also hit back &#8211;
