{"id":91901,"date":"2021-10-22T17:24:04","date_gmt":"2021-10-22T21:24:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=91901"},"modified":"2021-10-22T17:24:04","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T21:24:04","slug":"shipping-containers-from-stranded-ships-actually-abandoned-in-california-neighborhoods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateofthenation.co\/?p=91901","title":{"rendered":"Shipping Containers From Stranded Ships Actually Abandoned in California Neighborhoods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more-->By Christopher Burroughs<br \/>\nThe Epoch Times<\/p>\n<p>Shipping containers stranded for weeks at sea are now reportedly\u00a0<strong>being abandoned in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-california\">California<\/a>\u00a0neighborhoods.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/LB-Port_23_JF_10142021-700x420.jpg?itok=3RIV7_cq\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/LB-Port_23_JF_10142021-700x420.jpg?itok=3RIV7_cq\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/LB-Port_23_JF_10142021-700x420.jpg?itok=3RIV7_cq\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"ee266e44-f643-499f-8a99-e440739e048a\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anaheim Street in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-los-angeles\">Los Angeles<\/a>\u00a0has become one of the locations where an overflow of empty containers now line local streets, as nearby UCTI Trucking deals with more than they can handle under the local port\u2019s 24\/7 operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s a bunch of neighbors that are very upset because it\u2019s a non-stop issue,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>local resident Sonia Cervantes told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/losangeles.cbslocal.com\/2021\/10\/18\/cargo-ship-bottleneck-port-la-long-beach\/\">CBSLA<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cervantes also said a container had blocked her car at one point.<\/p>\n<p>UCTI Trucking owner Frank Arrieran addressed the situation, as the company experiences massive overflow to its usual 65 container spaces.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cRight now with the ports and everything that\u2019s going on over there\u00a0<strong>we\u2019re stuck with the containers<\/strong>, having to bring them all to the yard, and\u00a0<strong>we only have so much space,<\/strong>\u201d Arrieran told CBSLA.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Arrieran hopes to strike a deal with local officials to access more space to meet the growth in operations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As of Tuesday, 100 container ships were reportedly waiting to unload in the Los Angeles Port.<\/strong>\u00a0Industry leaders claim the backlogs are partly due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The growing supply chain issues have led some to label it a crisis. Republicans have spoken out for more from the Department of Transportation, while\u00a0President Joe Biden addressed plans to improve shipping.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) said there \u201cis more that the Department of Transportation can and should be doing to help address ongoing supply chain issues related to the pandemic,\u201d in a statement\u00a0to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/buttigieg-pressure-republicans-supply-chain-problems\">Washington Examiner<\/a>\u00a0last week.<\/p>\n<p>The supply chain crisis led Biden to make\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-retail-sales-reveal-surprise-increase-in-september-despite-ongoing-supply-shortages_4050881.html\">new announcements<\/a>\u00a0last week to address congestion at some of America\u2019s ports.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAfter weeks of negotiation and working with my team and with the major union and retailers and freight movers, the Ports of Los Angeles\u2014the Port of Los Angeles announced today that it\u2019s going to be\u2014begin operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,\u201d Biden announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis follows the Port of Long Beach\u2019s commitment to 24\/7 that it announced just weeks ago,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Biden called the effort a \u201cfirst key step\u201d to improving the nation\u2019s supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s speech also announced the expansion of shipping companies to meet the growing demands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, FedEx and UPS, two of our nation\u2019s biggest freight movers, are committing today to significantly increase the amount of goods they are moving at night.
