missed its self-imposed deadline to count early ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Terry McAuliffe\u2019s campaign says\u00a0<strong>Fairfax County will not meet their self-imposed deadline of 8pm to count early votes<\/strong>. McAuliffe, meanwhile, said during a debate with Youngkin &#8220;I don\u2019t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach,&#8221; a decidedly poor move.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em><span class=\"s2\">McAuliffe\u2019s campaign has faltered amid anecdotal accounts of an\u00a0<strong>apathetic Democratic voter base<\/strong>. Biden\u2019s standing in the commonwealth is mediocre, with his approval rating in the low 40s in several polls.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><em><span class=\"s2\">The upshot is that\u00a0<strong>Youngkin appears to have the momentum going into Election Day on Tuesday<\/strong>. The level of enthusiasm at recent campaign events has been tangibly greater for Youngkin, even in the Democratic-leaning Northern Virginia suburbs.\u00a0-The Hill<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, the University of Virginia&#8217;s Center for Politics has shifted its opinion of the race from &#8220;leans Democratic&#8221; to &#8220;leans Republican.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0\u201cYoungkin has the enthusiasm, the environment, the history, and perhaps even the issues (given his focus on education and its increasing salience in polling). McAuliffe has the state\u2019s Democratic lean in his favor. However, we do feel we owe it to readers to push this race one way or the other and not just move it to a Toss-Up rating at the end. So we\u2019re moving from Leans Democratic to Leans Republican.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>PredictIt has Youngkin with a significant lead.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/predict.png?itok=H-ipsj88\" data-image-external-href=\"\" data-image-href=\"\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/predict.png?itok=H-ipsj88\" data-link-option=\"0\"><picture><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline-images image-style-inline-images\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.zerohedge.com\/s3fs-public\/styles\/inline_image_mobile\/public\/inline-images\/predict.png?itok=H-ipsj88\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"546\" data-entity-type=\"file\" data-entity-uuid=\"34f34223-4821-442d-998f-0fe5e32dec1f\" data-responsive-image-style=\"inline_images\" \/><\/picture><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The shift comes after McAuliffe spent considerable time pressing his Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill to pass two major bills in order to show that Democrats are able to capitalize on their slim majority in Congress &#8211; yet fighting within the party has resulted in a political quagmire.<\/p>\n<p>And as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/01\/virginia-goes-right-every-time-dc-goes-too-far-left\/\"><em>New York Post<\/em><\/a>\u00a0notes, what&#8217;s going on in Virginia may be part of a 30-year political epicycle in which a Democrat wins the White House and then &#8216;lurches left&#8217; &#8211; causing a backlash that reverberates to off-year elections in Virginia and New Jersey.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>In 1993 it was Bill Clinton, who ran for office as a \u201cnew kind of Democrat,\u201d promising to \u201cend welfare as we know it\u201d and pledging not to raise taxes on the middle class. Instead\u00a0<strong>Clinton moved left, dumping his welfare reform promise in favor of an unpopular nationalized health care scheme<\/strong>\u00a0that a Democratic Congress never even put to a vote, raising taxes on the middle class, and promoting the boutique liberal cause of gays in the military (though ultimately settling for the muddle of \u201cdon\u2019t ask, don\u2019t tell\u201d).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Republicans swept the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/31\/glenn-youngkin-terry-mcauliffe-make-final-pitch-to-virginians\/\">governors\u2019 races in Virginia<\/a>\u00a0and New Jersey in 1993 and made large gains in both state legislatures,<\/strong>\u00a0previewing the GOP landslides in the House and Senate in 1994, when Republicans gained 54 seats in the House for their first House majority in 40 years, and eight seats in the Senate that also gave the GOP a majority.
