A survey of 2,000 U.S. residents \u2013 conducted by\u00a0OnePoll<\/a>\u00a0on Nov. 2 \u2013 examined how the\u00a0COVID-19 vaccine<\/a>\u00a0has impacted people\u2019s relationships with their loved ones ahead of the holidays this year.<\/p>\n Seventy-two percent of vaccinated respondents don\u2019t think they could ever get some of their family members to understand the importance of the vaccine. On the other hand, 14 percent of survey respondents\u00a0don\u2019t plan to ever get the shot<\/a>\u00a0themselves.<\/p>\n When asked about their decision, one respondent admits that they \u201cdon\u2019t trust the vaccine is safe,\u201d while another says they are \u201cconcerned about side effects.\u201d One even believes the vaccine \u201cwas rushed and people who are getting vaccinated are still getting sick.\u201d<\/p>\n Half of the unvaccinated respondents (49%) have stopped communicating with family members who don\u2019t understand why they refuse the shot. These strained family dynamics may explain why 22 percent of unvaccinated respondents have so far been\u00a0excluded from all family gatherings<\/a>, including the holidays.<\/p>\n Forty-three percent of unvaccinated respondents confess they\u2019re \u201cworried\u201d about potentially losing their jobs and benefits, or paying higher health insurance premiums because they\u2019re not vaccinated.<\/p>\n Their concerns come on the heels of a new federal mandate, announced on Nov. 4, which\u00a0will require Americans<\/a>\u00a0working at companies with 100 or more employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine by Jan. 4 or go for COVID testing every week.<\/p>\n Regardless of their vaccination status, half the poll (53%) agree that the politicization of the vaccine has completely divided their families. According to the results, two in three respondents feel they cannot go home for the holidays without getting vaccinated first. Of the 65 percent who are fully vaccinated, nearly six in 10 (58%) have reportedly\u00a0cut off family members<\/a>\u00a0who refuse to get the vaccine. However, 38 percent of unvaccinated people say they remain in contact with their vaccinated loved ones, and 58 percent of the same group add that they\u2019re still welcome at family get-togethers.
