(AP Photo\/file)AP<\/p><\/div>\n<p>By\u00a0<a class=\"byline__authorLink\" title=\"The Associated Press\" href=\"http:\/\/www.al.com\/staff\/bamaap\/posts.html\">The Associated Press<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"45HBJ3KK6NH2ZDO3AO4FBTJUHM\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Two men convicted in the assassination of Malcolm X are set to be cleared after more than half a century, with prosecutors now saying authorities withheld evidence in the civil rights leader\u2019s killing, according to a news report Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"HNC7ICA2IJFFTBPLMRAPHRBRZ4\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">The New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/17\/nyregion\/malcolm-x-killing-exonerated.html\">reported Wednesday\u00a0<\/a>that Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam, who spent decades in prison for the crime, were being exonerated after a nearly two-year investigation by their lawyers and the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s office. A court date is expected Thursday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"D3UPTXEFBVE3DGVA2BPDXSYRBM\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">\u201cThese men did not get the justice that they deserved,\u201d District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. told the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p id=\"MNOHEIQAZ5HQLINYJZBZVA5MIA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">Malcolm X was gunned down as he began a speech in Harlem\u2019s Audubon Ballroom on Harlem\u2019s Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21, 1965.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5XMCV42MPBC3RPW6SALXRZIMWI\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\">The two men were then known as Norman 3X Butler and Thomas 15X Johnson. Aziz, 83, was released in 1985.
