“This means that every dollar of US aid to Israel is illegal!”

Is Former Israeli PM Ehud Barak Antisemitic?

The Syracusan

The implications of what former Israeli PM Barak reportedly said recently are truly mind-blowing:

To the extent that his revelation about Israel possessing nuclear weapons is true, it means every dollar of US tax money given to his country in the form of military assistance is illegal!

It is a requirement of American law that all who have nukes must sign the NPT as a precondition for getting military aid. Noah Chomsky pointed out years ago that Israel was in violation of that provision and now Barak has essentially confirmed it.

Does that make him an Anti-Semite for saying something that exposes his country to potentially serious repercussions? Of course not!

But anyone who dares to say anything critical of the Jewish state invariably receives immediate and relentless attacks declaring them to be racist bigots!

Obviously Barak was pushed to make such a risky statement by what he perceives is the
extremely dangerous behavior of current PM Netanyahu and the band of religious zealots
now in power.

Historically, everyone knew (guessed) they had such powerful weapons and were using the
doctrine of “strategic ambiguity” to hide the full truth to avoid the law’s mandate.

Where is the outcry in the press and from Capitol Hill about this statement? Where is the
concern about the rule of law from the likes of Alan Dershowitz in light of this blatant
admission that Israel is not in compliance with what the legislation demands?

The pretense of Israeli “democracy” continues to rapidly erode in the face of such developments under Bibi’s authoritarian regime. All the more ironic is his year’s long belly-aching about Iran’s imminent acquisition of nuclear capability.

It’s way past time that honest observers can avoid being the brunt of pointing out Israel’s
weaknesses and wrong-headed policies without being labeled as something they are not.

The Barak comment creates a narrow window where that possibility has emerged as
potentially real. Hopefully, others will pry it open even more and let the light of truth
pour through so we can get beyond the hypocrisy and lies that have caused so much
harm to countless numbers of the innocent.
