We were instructed by our Founders to avoid foreign entanglements. That mandate did not have an asterisk that said “except for Israel!”

Irrespective of the desire of well-intentioned elected officials sympathetic to the plight of the Jewish State in the wake of the latest flair up in “The Holy Land,” US law is clear that any nation possessing nuclear weapons must sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as a precondition for receiving foreign aid.

Yes, I know all about “strategic ambiguity” and Israel’s ability to finesse the issue. But that’s the kind of gamesmanship the Neocons and their ilk have exploited to manipulate a gullible public including decent Jews and Christian Zionists into sending countless billions to Israel.

The question of whether they possess nukes is ultra sensitive for many reasons not the least of which is that some JFK assassination researchers believe it was that Dimona nuclear reactor program in the Negev which Kennedy opposed that motivated Israel with the motive to take him out.

That and the insecurity it triggers for it’s Arab neighbors who also want the bomb and you see the reason why that NPT provision exists.

Now we have a new House Speaker, Mike Johnson, who is a Christian Zionist who got 412 Members of Congress to pass a resolution supporting Israel. Besides the fact that it ignores the humanitarian crisis unfolding for millions of Palestinians, it all but declares Israel the 51st State while implying however obliquely that we should be living in a Theocracy beholden to Jesus and God’s Chosen People as evidenced by the Old and New Testament.

But not every American subscribes to that belief system while Congress ignoring the Constitution and the rule of law are arguably criminal acts requiring the arreat of the culprits. Some still believe in separation of church and state and reject the specific claims Johnson endorses pertaining to Israel. And many Orthodox Jews resent the Zionist thrust
which they believe is inconsistent with their interpretation of Judaism.

The MAGA Movement in particular seem to be letting themselves be hoodwinked again. They are the ones who are called on to fight the elite’s wars as well as paying for them with their taxes. Where is Steve Bannon to remind us about Ike’s warning to guard against the Military Industrial Complex, the modern meme equivalent to avoiding foreign entanglements which we had a hard time following after our rise to imperial status on the global scene post-WW2.

Recent experience following the Neocon vision of us as the indispensable nation in a unipolar world has repeatedly proven disastrous during the second half of the American Century in places like Korea, Viet Nam, Afghanistan, Iraq twice, Libya, Ukraine and now probably again in the Middle East.

Sadly, yesterday’s overwhelming vote of support suggests we are poised to continue our drunken pursuit of Pax Americana until our already bankrupt country finally hits the bottom of our Treasury and the moral swamp that is Washington, D. C.

I say it’s time to stop this foolishness, especially for MAGA and the deplorables who should realize that Johnson is more of a Theocrat than he is one of them. Let’s avoid another foreign entanglement and prepare to arrest the 412 Members of Congress if they break the law!
