If DeSantis was serious he would have done the following:

– Announce that the investigation will be taken over by the State Police with a task force answering to him (his own Hawaii Five-O so to speak), not local law enforcement

– Announce that the prosecution will be by the State Attorney General, not the Palm Beach County DA, and the crime is attempted murder under the Florida Penal Code.

– Announce that federal deference will be considered on a case by case basis at the state level and that local officials are not authorized to grant it. It will not be automatically granted., but only granted by specific individuals named by the Governor or AG.

– Lay out the authority under state law that allows this.

The fact that he’s done nothing like this (as far as I can tell) makes me think this is all well-meaning theater and not serious actions.
