Will the PA GOP really press to withdraw the election certification?

Pennsylvania Republicans call for withdrawing election certification

More than two dozen Pennsylvania state Republicans signed on to a resolution calling for the commonwealth to withdraw its election certification.

The 26 GOP lawmakers announced the resolution on Friday, citing election law compromises, voter irregularities, and unconstitutional legislative decisions in their reasoning for why the secretary and governor of Pennsylvania should move to “withdraw or vacate the certification of presidential electors and to delay certification of results in other statewide electoral contests voted on at the 2020 General Election.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed off on the certification of President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of his commonwealth and its 20 electoral votes, but this resolution, in addition to Pennsylvania Commonwealth Judge Patricia McCullough’s ruling that a separate GOP lawsuit could succeed, would stop that process.

“It is absolutely imperative that we take these steps if we are to ensure public trust in our electoral system. Faith in government begins with faith in the elections which select that government,” the House GOP members’ news release stated, according to Penn Live.

“Just as Pennsylvania led the founding of our nation, Pennsylvania should also lead the way by making sure our commonwealth continues to stand as a keystone in our nation where free and fair elections are of paramount concern, no matter the final outcome of those elections,” it continued.

The legislative session ends on Monday, so there isn’t much time for the legislative body to consider it. Republican House Speaker Bryan Cutler, who did not co-sponsor the resolution, has not scheduled a time to consider the resolution before the end of the session.

“Rudy Giuliani and others brought a circus to Pennsylvania, and this is like the crowded clown car going round and round at the end of the show, just a bit of ridiculous farce,” House Democratic spokesman Bill Patton said. “The simple fact is the election’s over, and Joe Biden is president-elect.”

Biden has begun the presidential transition and has already started naming Cabinet officials, even though President Trump has not conceded. His campaign and Republican operatives alike are filing election-related lawsuits in battleground states, including Pennsylvania, claiming that there were voting irregularities and widespread fraud. The lawsuits have overwhelmingly been rejected by judges in a number of states.
